BTEC Sport Tutor

Salary: £26,000 to £28,000 per anum

This full-time position involves the delivery of Pearson BTEC First Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport and the Pearson BTEC National Level 3 Foundation/Extended Diploma in Sport, within our post-16 Education Academy Programme, in partnership with The Holy Trinity Sixth Form, Crawley.

The successful candidate will need to be passionate about and committed to the development of students of all academic and playing abilities. You must be able to work under pressure, handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Candidates must be able to deliver dynamic and challenging lessons and coaching sessions, which inspire students and ensure they make rapid and sustained progress at all levels. Candidates need to demonstrate they can provide clarity, direction and inspiration of what can be achieved for post-16 students, demanding the highest standards of their students.

It is essential that candidates can communicate with staff, students and partners in a clear, concise and purposeful way to build effective relationships. It is also crucial that candidates demonstrate that they work hard and complete work to a high standard, providing evidence of how they continually look for ways of improving individual and team performance

This role provides front-line representation of the Foundation. As such, it requires the post-holder to possess the highest standards of presentation and to uphold the Foundations values at all times.



  • Support the Education Manager and Education Department towards the successful implementation of the programme and the recruitment of students.

  • Delivery of the Pearson BTEC First Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport and the Pearson BTEC National Level 3 Foundation/Extended Diploma in Sport.

  • Be responsible for the preparation, the development of teaching materials, the delivery of teaching programmes and marking of students’ work

  • To contribute to the production, review and refinement of schemes of work and assessment.

  • Undertake all pastoral arrangements as appropriate.

  • Be accountable for the attainment, progress and outcomes of students you teach.

  • Be aware of students’ capabilities, their prior knowledge and starting point, plan schemes of work that differentiate appropriately to build on these, demonstrating knowledge and understanding of how students learn.

  • Contribute to regular student reviews and Parent/Carer Consultation Evenings.

  • To take responsibility for the upkeep and updating of resources for taught courses.

  • To understand and implement the club’s safeguarding policy, procedures, and best practice guidelines in your role.

  • Give students regular feedback, both verbally and through accurate marking, and encourage learners to respond to the feedback, reflect on progress, their emerging needs and to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study.

  • Participate in any relevant meetings/professional opportunities at The Holy Trinity Sixth Form and with key partners, which relate to the learners, curriculum, or organisation of The Holy Trinity Sixth Form, including pastoral arrangements and open days.

  • QTS (PGCE, BEd or equivalent)

  • Sport Related University Degree

  • FA Level 2 Football Coaching or other sports qualification (Minimum)

  • Emergency First Aid and Safeguarding Certificate

  • Enhanced DBS Certificate

  • Full driving licence and the use of a vehicle.



  • Experience of teaching Pearson BTEC Qualifications.

  • Experience of teaching in relevant programme areas.

  • Experience and knowledge of working within a football environment.

  • Experience and knowledge of supporting students working towards Functional Skills qualifications, such as Pass Functional Skills.

  • Ability to follow direction and work in a focus-based and outcome driven environment.

To be responsible for the delivery of football and PE sessions in connection with the Schools Sports Programme, including but not exclusive to Lunchtime Clubs, After-School Clubs, Premier League Primary Stars and Soccer Schools. This role will also provide opportunities to work across additional programmes such as Elite & Development Centres, PL Kicks, Recreational Football and Match Day Duties.

  • Creating and improving relationships with Crawley schools.

  • Undertaking administrative duties such as collecting and recording participant information.

  • Ensuring programmes are delivered to a high standard and incorporate relevant safeguarding and health and safety procedures, including:

  • Delivering sessions within the Football and Sports Development programme.

  • Adhering to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and any related legislation; and

  • Promoting the Foundation’s policies, rules and procedures on health and safety.

  • Establishing contact with individuals from all sections of the community, including:

  • Maintaining existing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Using promotional material to signpost potential participants to sessions run by the Foundation.

  • Working with the School Sports Programme Coordinator to plan, deliver and review sessions delivered, including:

  • Creating session plans that meet the needs of the participants.

  • Managing the behaviour of participants during sessions.

  • Delivering fun and engaging sessions.

  • Reflecting on session plans.

The competencies that are required are:


  • FA Level 1 Football Coach.

  • Emergency First Aid and Safeguarding Children Certificates.

  • Enhanced DBS Certificate.

  • Driving Licence and access to a fully insured vehicle.


  • FA Level 2 Football Coach.

  • UEFA B Football Coach.

  • FA Youth Module 1, 2 & 3, plus Youth Award.

  • AfPE Level 3 in Assisting the Delivery of PE in Primary Schools.

  • Level 2 Multi-Skills.

  • Relevant University Degree.




  • Planning and delivering football/PE coaching sessions.

  • Marketing with the aim of increasing sports participation.

  • Using a range of strategies to engage with various groups of learners.

  • Understanding of safeguarding issues.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Experience of delivering versatile coaching sessions.
