Last week, we held our annual awards ceremony for our Education Academy in the Redz Bar at the Broadfield Stadium.
This season was one of the programmes most successful, started by winning the Sussex Schools Cup, then securing the NYFL South Reserves Title and managing to retain their spot in the South Premier division. After securing promotion last year, the team had to work incredibly hard to keep Crawley in the topflight of the National Football Youth League.
The awards evening provided a chance to celebrate the amazing players who played a vital role in the programme’s success, both on the pitch and in the classroom.
The first award to be presented was the Education Award both for year 1 and 2 students. George Masters was praised for all his hard work, and as a result was named this years Education Award winner for the Year 1 group. Although he was not present on the evening, Keelan Howard was also congratulated on all his hard work and his helpful nature towards Foundation staff.
It was then over to Head Coach, Rob Semark to announce his Managers Players for the season for both the A and B squads. Commended for his 21 South Premier appearances and 8 goals, Lewis Gould was presented with this year’s Managers Player for the A team. Similarly, Riley Morgan was applauded for his determination on the pitch and picked up the Managers Player for the B Team.
The Players Player Award, voted for by the students, saw Cavan Chedzey voted as this year’s B team winner, and skipper Josh Clay winning the A team players player award.
Leading up to the awards students were asked to vote for their ‘team of the year’. The players selected are as follows:
- Monty Watson-Price (GK)
- Charlie Pettipher (RB)
- Alfie Brill (CB)
- Yaroslav Tsyhanenko (CB)
- Freddie Hammond (LB)
- Josh Clay (Midfield)
- Beau Walters (Midfield)
- Jack Hayes (Midfield)
- Sami Zagdouni (Forward)
- Lewis Gould (Forward)
- Cavan Chedzey (Forward)
The programme award is awarded for the student who performs in all aspects of the course, including attendance, work ethic, team spirit and being an all-round team player throughout the year. Our Year 1 award, went to Charlie Pettipher, and the 2nd Year award was given to goalkeeper Monty Watson-Price.
We’d like to thank everyone who came along last week to celebrate an incredible season, we’re beyond proud of the determination shown by the students this year. As one season ends, more opportunities begin for our year 2 leavers who will now go onto peruse their next challenge, and we wish them all the best for the future.
We have VERY limited spaces remaining on the course for September! Our post 16-19 education academy programme offers a BTEC Sport qualification for students that is a great steppingstone to higher education, employment, training, or football careers.
