Crawley Town BTEC Macmillan Fundraiser!

For the last few weeks, as an introduction to their education course, Crawley Town Community Foundation’s BTEC students have been taking part in their National Citizen Service (NCS) programme. During their first week, or “Adventure week” as we like to call it, they travelled to the Isle of Wight, where they took part in a variety of exciting activities including coasteering, giant paddleboarding and kayaking. This allowed them to build their communication, confidence and teamwork skills, setting them up nicely to play in their team for the rest of the season.

On the second week, or “discovery week”, the boys took part in a variety of workshops at Broadfield Stadium, such as sports nutrition, sports psychology and football conditioning. This allowed them to prepare for their course and develop skills and knowledge that they can take into their future careers. They also took part in a plastering workshop, run by Tooldogs, that gave them a taste of life as a tradesman!

The last phase of their programme, the “social action” phase, will take place at the next Crawley Town home match vs Yeovil Town on the 29th September. The aim of this phase is to carry out a project of their choice to raise money and awareness for a chosen charity, which they would love your help to support! Before the match, the students will be running their own crossbar challenge and penalty shoot out on the ball court outside of Redz Bar. Both activities are £1 for 3 goes, and there will be prizes! They will also be bucket collecting across the day. All proceeds will go towards the charity Macmillan Cancer Support. We look forward to seeing you there!

On an extra note, the NCS Team at Crawley Town Community Foundation are running an additional similar Autumn programme for other young people in the area during the October half term! This is for anyone aged 15-17 who may have missed out on our larger 4 week summer programmes, who wants to do something over the half-term, or wants to get an extra something on their cv! It’s a great opportunity to meet some new people and learn some new skills.

Please call the office on 01293 410000 ex 4 or visit www.ncsyes.co.uk to sign up and for more information.
