Foundation’s Youth Teams Travel to Ipswich for Fixtures.

On October 28th, the week before the second lockdown, Crawley Town Community Foundation took 10 squads of Crawley Town youth players from U7’s to U16’s, travelled to Ipswich for a day of fantastic fixtures against their youth teams.

With the buzz of a big away game, the players enjoyed the experience and went away with feeling proud for challenging themselves. The youth squads had been working hard with their coaches to prepare for the matches in their weekly training sessions that complement their commitments to their grassroots clubs.

All fixtures were broken down into 4 quarters, of 20 or 30 minutes each. To comply with COVID-19 restrictions, the day was broken into a morning session and afternoon session to keep participants in their age groups and to limit the number of players at the pitches at the one time.

The morning fixtures were U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, where we saw our U15’s win 10 – 0, with the evening fixtures for the day were for our U8, U10, U12, U14 and U16’s squads.

Ian Cobbett, Player Pathway Co-ordinator said, “The players were given objectives, which matched our philosophy and training, testing them against competitive players in a more pressured match environment. Not only were there stand out individual performances but great team ones as well. It was exciting to see the players from Crawley and the surrounding area gel, creating a real squad feel throughout the day.”

Crawley Town Community Foundation uses the power of sport and football to engage, inspire and empower people. Working with participants and the community, together with local, regional and national partners, we aim to positively change lives and support people in health & wellbeing, sports participation, equalities and inclusion, education, enterprise, employment and skills, regeneration and community safety.
