Utilita EFL Kids Cup 2019

On Monday 9th December, Crawley Town Community Foundation hosted the EFL Kid’s Cup at the 4G opposite the People’s Pension Stadium with 12 teams from local schools entered.

The participating teams were part of over 22,000 school children taking part in the competitions each year, with the aim of representing their local EFL Club, as they battle for the opportunity to play at Wembley Stadium in the final.

By encouraging young people to participate and develop a love of sport, the Clubs and CCOs are helping to deliver the EFL Trust’s overall vision to create stronger, healthier, more active communities, whilst also supporting Sport England’s ambition of creating an active nation by focusing on the benefits sport can bring to people and society.

It was a highly competitive event with, each school giving it their all ending with a few stand out teams going into the Quarter Finals, taking us down to 8 teams.

During the semi-final the competition started to heat up, with Southwater Junior Academy vs. Milton Mount Primary School and Pound Hill Junior School vs. Maidenbower Junior School going head to head, with the top teams from 2 groups aiming to qualify from the tournament into the finals hosted on Saturday 14th December.

Southwater Junior Academy won their Semi-final match, putting them straight through to the finals. Leaving Pound Hill Junior School and Maidenbower Junior School going head to head in a penalty shootout to qualify for the second place in the finals.

At the end of the event both Southwater Junior Academy and Maidenbower Junior School went through to the finals at Crawley Town for their chance to win their place to represent Crawley at the regional finals.

The final between Southwater Junior Academy and Maidenbower Junior School was a very competitive fixture, both teams showing their level of skill and determination to make it to the final with Maidenbower Junior School coming out on top, winning 1-0.

A huge thank you to all the schools who competed in the Annual EFL Kid’s Cup, and we are excited to see what talent we have coming our way in future tournaments. We wish Maidenbower all the best for the next round of the competition.
